On June 1st it was International Children’s Day. To help promote this the charity Lumos had created their new campaign website www.lightabirthdaycandle.org.uk which we built and host here at Bug. For more information see our previous post.
Various promotional work has been carried out for the site which all came to a crescendo when Stephen Fry was set to tweet about it on that morning! Naturally this is a great piece of PR but brings with it it’s own set of challenges.
With his army of 2.7m followers such publicity also causes a technical challenge as the sheer volume of traffic in a short space of time is renowned for crashing web servers on a regular basis. To protect the website, the integrity of the cause and reap the maximum benefits Bug worked closely with our good friends at UKFAST and helped Lumos to put a caching system in place to support them during this period.
We’re glad to say everything went smoothly!
